THE WINERY ON THE KELLERGASSE

Construction of a new building for wine processing

A building with a usable area of 4,300 m² was erected outside the center of the village, but with a connection through the nearby Kellergasse. In the basement there is a state-of-the-art bottling plant, a stainless steel tank storage facility, an air-conditioned wooden barrel cellar and a grape transfer system that enables the grapes to be transferred and processed quickly and in free fall.

On the ground floor of the winery is the WEINSTADL with a tasting room and integrated wine vault, a kitchen that enables professional catering and the catering of in-house wine festivals. The office is also located on the ground floor and offers space for 5 office employees.

Here, a variety of spaces divide up the building complex, allowing visitors to stroll through the winery and gain surprising insights into the processing and spatial experiences.

The experience

In addition to qualitative advantages, the new building will enable us to increase efficiency in work processes and boost sales. The spatial arrangement of press, pre-clarification, tank/barrel removal, filtration, bottling, labeling and outgoing storage results in gentler vinification and saves time.

We also have the option of optimizing the indoor climate. The entire basement is built with a full-length cellar and thus reaches a depth of 8 meters. The uninsulated components in contact with the ground and the resulting physical activation of the ground guarantee a permanent temperature of 15°C in the storage facilities.

In the course of the new building, a new expedit with truck parking space including loading yard was also created for the outgoing and incoming goods warehouse.

Thanks to the focus on optimizing all work processes, the use of gravity during grape transfer/processing, intelligent resource management and environmentally friendly energy generation, all production processes have also been sustainably improved.

Sustainability

In line with the sustainability approach, the utmost care is taken to conserve natural resources in all areas of production. The motto in planning is to be as self-sufficient as possible.
In addition, state-of-the-art refrigeration and air conditioning technology helps to save energy.

To generate our own electricity, a photovoltaic system has been discreetly installed on the roof of the Rotweinhaus. A corresponding storage system enables us to generate 60% of the electricity we need ourselves. The remaining 40% is sourced from 100% renewable energy.
Our customers can charge their electric cars and e-bikes free of charge in our parking lot.

The water collected from the large roof areas is collected on the property. The huge roof area was planted with native grasses and flowers. The outstanding "Weinstadeln" were fitted with gable roofs and thus contribute to the harmonious integration into the surrounding natural and cellar lane landscape.
Clay plaster and ceiling cooling create a pleasant and energy-saving indoor climate.

It is therefore not only a winery with the highest standards of ecological and social sustainability, but also breathes new life into the Kellergasse.

We developed the project planning with the architects AC "Architects Collective" from Vienna.
The architects' task was to build a practicable, sustainable winery, taking up the material language of the adjacent cellar lane and the natural surroundings.

3 adjoining cellars of the Kellergasse were integrated into the new building and allow direct access. In this way, tradition and modernity are skillfully combined. Furthermore, we want to fulfill a heartfelt wish and create a private "wine cellar". Bottles from our own production will be stored here every year. We want to show how well our wines can mature. Of course, we also want to add wines from our winegrower friends from all over the world.
